DESCRIPTION -Funded by the European Commission through Grundtvig, VOCH recognises the increasing
importance of the voluntary sector for preserving cultural heritage and
running cultural institutions, such as museums. It explore this
phenomenon at European level, identifying different types of voluntary
work and the areas of activity in which cultural volunteers are
engaged, with the objective of designing training addressed both to
volunteers themselves and to the people responsible for volunteer
programmes within cultural organisations. The project ran from
November 2007 until October 2009.

The state of Baden-Württemberg is one of the sixteen Länder of the Federal Republic of Germany, and its inhabitants are extensively engaged in voluntary work (about 40% of the population). ARBES is part of the Land network in which welfare organisations, towns and cities, municipalities, communities and rural districts are important partners in voluntary work. The Land networks (cities/towns/rural districts) maintain about forty local centres, some of which are run voluntarily. This combination of local promotion, networking at the state level, initiatives, associations and municipal administrations is unique in Germany.Out of the senior citizens' co-operative initiatives and citizens' centres created through local initiatives and supported by the government, ARBES was founded in 1994. It is an umbrella organisation, which as of December 30th 2000 comprised over sixty member initiatives.

The Association of Slovak Community Foundations- AKNS was created in 2003, and has 8 members at present. The mission of the Association is to foster development of Slovak community foundations, and to help create partnerships with donors and different institutions.The Association brings together organizations which have a unique role in their communities: community foundations accumulate an in-depth knowledge of their communities’ needs, in partnerships with their donors they fund initiatives which strive to meet these needs, and they disseminate the ideas of local giving, self- help and voluntary involvement.
